There are a couple things to check to ensure you have a proper fit. The safest place to start is the ABC’s of babywearing.
- Airway – ensure your babies airways are free and clear of any obstructions. Ensuring that your baby is “close enough to kiss” helps you hear and feel your baby breathe (on top of soaking in that sweet head smell). Keep baby’s chin slightly elevated so that it is not touching their chest.
- Body Positioning – the fabric across the bottom should go from “knee to knee” to ensure proper knee and hip support. Inserts, head rests, and other body positioning accessories may be used to help ensure safe wearing for newborns.
- Comfort – be sure that you are comfortable! Anything that is pinching and poking when you first put baby in the carrier will continue to be bothersome. Fix and adjust as needed!
